TASK 2: Beginning Your Research
After your research topic has been approved, it is now time to begin your research! You will be required to use a minimum of 5 sources to support and answer your research question. We will be using sources found on the Internet for this project.
Evaluating Your Sources
Did you know that not everything you read or view on the Internet is true? When using the Internet to conduct research, it is INCREDIBLY important to evaluate (test for accuracy) your sources. You will be using a method of website evaluation called the CRAAP test (it's okay to giggle!!!) Below is a brief introduction to how the CRAAP test works. Then, we will look at the CRAAP test evaluation document HERE. You will submit this document later in the unit.
The CRAAP Test
Google (Internet) Search Tips
When using the Internet to find sources to support your research, you may find it useful to use these tips to help you find exactly what you are looking for!
- Use the terms AND, OR and NOT between search terms to help narrow down your results! For example, search for: children AND Holocaust or children AND Holocaust AND survivors or children OR teenagers AND Holocaust
- You can also use the advanced search features in Google to find what you are looking for! Do this by clicking "Settings" in your Google search, then click "Advanced Search" (see below).
Source Sheets
Source sheets are designed to help you organize the information that you find to support your research and answer your research question. You will be organizing all of your resources on source sheets. Click on the sample source sheet below to get your own copies! These source sheets contain a link to Easybib so that you can cite your sources easily!
Here are some guidelines for using source sheets:
